Houses Burnt, 25 Killed, In Fresh Plateau Attack

No fewer than twenty-five (25) were reportedly killed in Dundu Village of Kwall district in Bassa local government area of Plateau state after armed persons attacked the community.

The gunmen also set ablaze many houses in the latest round of attacks in the northern state which Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari visited last week.

The village head, Daniel Kadzia, said the attackers invaded the village after noticing that the youth and men had gone for mining.

Similarly, the spokesman of Plateau police command, Matthias Tyopev, confirmed the attack but could not full details.

“There was an attack yesterday (Monday) in Bassa. As such, the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, Jos, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Taiwo Jebiyisu, in charge of Department of Operations to go to the scene of crime for an on-the spot-assessment,” police spokesperson, Terna Tyopev, said.

“I cannot authoritatively confirm to you the casualty rate. As I speak with you, a deputy commissioner of police, DCP Taiwo Jebiyisu, in charge of Department of Operations is on his way to the scene.”

Meanwhile, the development is coming after President Buhari had appealed to stakeholders to resolve their differences.

Despite the President’s statement, some people were killed during his visit. A mass burial had been fixed for the victims of last week’s attack but the fresh killings disrupted it.
